Meet the Aurea Banana—the sun-drenched star of the tropical world. With her massive, arching leaves splashed with vibrant, lemon-yellow variegation, she looks like a beam of sunshine in a pot. She’s a fast-growing, high-energy beauty that brings serious "tropical vacation" vibes to your home!

  • The Formal Name: Musa acuminata 'Aurea' (often 'Ae Ae' or 'Florida')
  • The Nickname: Variegated Yellow Banana
  • Roots: A stunning variegated variety with ancestry in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.
  • Natural Vibe: Basking in the full tropical sun and humid island air.

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Sunlight: She craves bright light! Give her at least 6–8 hours of bright, indirect sun to maintain her neon yellow color.
  • Best Room: A large, sun-filled living room or a bright conservatory with floor space.
  • Snacks: She’s a heavy feeder! Use a balanced fertiliser every 2 weeks during the summer growing season.
  • Tropical Feels: High humidity (60%+) is her sweet spot to keep those giant leaves from getting crispy brown edges.
  • Cosy Factor: Thrives in warmth (18–32°C). She is very sensitive to cold and will go dormant if chilled!
  • Thirst: Water thoroughly when the top 3 cm of soil is dry. She’s a thirsty one but hates sitting in water.
  • Safety First: Non-toxic – safe for pets and children (but she's a giant!).
  • The Bedding: A rich, well-draining potting mix with plenty of organic material.
  • Family Tree: Propagate by separating the "pups" (offsets) that emerge from the base of the mother plant.
  • Space Needs: She’s a giant—reaching 1.5–2.5 metres tall indoors with enough space and light!
  • Speed: Exceptionally fast-growing during the warm summer months.
  • Uninvited Guests: Watch for spider mites and mealybugs hiding in her massive leaves.
  • Moving Day: Repot every year as she will quickly outgrow her current home.
  • Haircut: Trim off older, tattered lower leaves to focus energy on new, variegated growth.
  • Fresh Air: Her massive leaf surface area makes her an incredible natural air filter and humidifier.
  • Plant Lore: Variegated bananas are some of the rarest and most sought-after tropical plants in the world!
