Meet the Monstera obliqua—the "Holy Grail" of the aroid world. With leaves that are more "hole" than plant, she looks like a delicate piece of living green lace. She’s famously rare, incredibly slow-growing, and a true symbol of botanical prestige that brings an ethereal, fragile beauty to any collection!

  • The Formal Name: Monstera obliqua (often 'Peru' or 'Amazonas' form)
  • The Nickname: The Lace-Leaf Monstera
  • Roots: A rare and elusive species native to the humid rainforests of Central and South America.
  • Natural Vibe: Creeping through the deepest, most humid parts of the jungle floor.

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Sunlight: Needs moderate to bright indirect light. Direct sun will instantly shrivel her paper-thin leaves!
  • Best Room: A humidity-rich bathroom or a dedicated plant cabinet with filtered light.
  • Snacks: A very weak balanced fertiliser once a month during spring and summer.
  • Tropical Feels: Extreme humidity is non-negotiable! Aim for 80%+ to prevent her delicate leaves from turning into crisps.
  • Cosy Factor: Keep it consistently warm (20–28°C). She is very sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
  • Thirst: Maintain even moisture. She likes a consistent drink but must have perfect drainage to prevent rot.
  • Safety First: Toxic – best kept out of reach of curious pets and children.
  • The Bedding: An extremely airy, chunky mix—think orchid bark, perlite, and plenty of sphagnum moss.
  • Family Tree: Propagate via stem cuttings with nodes in high humidity (moss or water).
  • Space Needs: A slow-growing creeper that stays relatively small indoors.
  • Speed: Notoriously slow—each leaf is a major event for this rare beauty!
  • Uninvited Guests: Watch for thrips and spider mites; she is a fragile target for pests.
  • Moving Day: Rarely needed; she prefers a small, snug, and very humid home.
  • Haircut: Not needed—every leaf is precious! Just remove the occasional yellowing lower leaf.
  • Fresh Air: A small but stunning way to oxygenate your specialized plant space.
  • Plant Lore: For years, many plants sold as 'Obliqua' were actually 'Adansonii'; the true 'Obliqua' is so rare that finding one is a major win!
