Monstera ‘Devil Monster’ is a rare and visually extreme Monstera cultivar prized for its dramatic, deeply fenestrated foliage and wild, almost chaotic leaf form. As the plant matures, leaves develop exaggerated splits and perforations, giving it a fierce, untamed appearance that has earned it cult status among serious collectors. Bold, architectural, and unmistakably exotic, this is a true statement Monstera.

  • Full Botanical Name: Monstera deliciosa ‘Devil Monster’ (cultivar name)
  • Common Names: Devil Monster Monstera
  • Country and/or Region of Origin: Cultivar; species native to Central America
  • Growing Conditions in Native Habitat: Tropical rainforests where plants climb trees in warm, humid conditions with bright filtered light

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light; higher light encourages stronger fenestration but avoid harsh direct sun.
  • Ideal Room: Bright living rooms, plant rooms, conservatories with filtered light
  • Feeding: Balanced aroid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (60–80%) preferred for large, well-formed leaves
  • Ideal Temperature: 20–28°C; protect from temperatures below 16°C and cold drafts
  • Watering: Allow the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and ensure excellent drainage
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic (genus level) — contains calcium oxalate crystals that may cause irritation if ingested
  • Soil Type: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix with bark, perlite, coco coir, and pumice
  • Propagation: Stem cuttings with at least one node; mature plants propagate more reliably
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 2–3 m indoors with support; spread 1–1.5 m
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast under optimal warmth and light
  • Pests and Treatment: Thrips, spider mites, and mealybugs; inspect new growth regularly
  • Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when rootbound; provide a sturdy moss pole or support
  • Pruning: Remove damaged leaves or control size as needed; pruning can encourage stronger new growth
  • Air Purification: Very good; contributes positively to indoor air quality
  • Folklore: Extreme-fenestration Monsteras are often associated with power and transformation, symbolising wild growth and unapologetic presence within elite plant collections
