Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' is a stunning and highly sought-after cultivar of the classic Monstera deliciosa. Known for its unique and striking white or cream-colored variegation on its large, glossy, deeply lobed leaves, this plant is a showstopper in any indoor space. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, 'Thai Constellation' is prized for its beautiful patterns that resemble constellations scattered across the leaves. It’s a perfect choice for plant collectors and those looking to add a touch of elegance to their home.

  • Full Botanical Name: Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation'
  • Common Names: Thai Constellation Monstera, Variegated Monstera
  • Country and/or Region of Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America
  • Growing Conditions in Native Habitat: Grows as an epiphyte in tropical rainforests, climbing trees and receiving filtered sunlight while thriving in high humidity and well-drained soil

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its variegation. While it can tolerate some lower light, insufficient light may result in a loss of the white or cream-colored markings on the leaves. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it's best to provide filtered or dappled light.
  • Ideal Room: Ideal for living rooms, offices, or bright spaces with indirect light. It can also thrive in a bathroom with sufficient light and humidity, making it a great addition to a tropical-themed space.
  • Feeding: Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring to summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer to support its growth and promote vibrant variegation.
  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. To keep this plant happy, mist the leaves regularly or place it on a humidity tray. It thrives in rooms with naturally higher humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens.
  • Ideal Temperature: Best kept between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' is sensitive to cold temperatures and should be protected from drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  • Watering: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Be sure to let the soil dry out between waterings, as overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure the plant is in a well-draining potting mix to promote healthy root growth.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep this plant out of reach of animals or young children to avoid accidental consumption, which can cause digestive upset or irritation.
  • Soil Type: Use a well-draining potting mix formulated for houseplants, tropical plants, or aroids. A mix containing perlite, orchid bark, or coco coir is ideal for providing the drainage that Monstera needs.
  • Propagation: Propagate by stem cuttings. Simply cut below a node (where leaves are attached) and place the cutting in water or well-draining soil to root. Once roots have formed, transfer the cutting into its own pot.
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Can grow up to 6-8 feet (1.8-2.4 meters) tall and spread 3-5 feet (90-150 cm) wide if given proper care and space. As a climbing plant, it will benefit from a support structure like a moss pole or trellis.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast-growing. The plant will grow steadily when provided with proper light, humidity, and water, producing new leaves and extending its vines.
  • Pests and Treatment: Generally resistant to pests but may occasionally attract spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil to prevent damage and ensure the plant remains healthy.
  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot with drainage holes and make sure it is slightly larger than the current pot to allow for healthy root growth and prevent waterlogging.
  • Pruning: Prune regularly to remove dead or damaged leaves and to control the plant’s size. Pruning will also encourage the plant to grow more densely and bushier, especially if it becomes leggy.
  • Air Purification: Known for its ability to purify the air, Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' helps remove toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene, improving indoor air quality and creating a healthier environment.
  • Folklore: Monstera plants are often associated with wealth, prosperity, and positive energy in feng shui. They are believed to bring good luck and success to the home and are considered symbols of strength and resilience.
