Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Variegata’ is a highly coveted variegated Monstera distinguished by its rich golden-yellow marbling that contrasts dramatically against deep green, fenestrated leaves. Unlike cream or white variegation, the aurea tones mature into warm honey and mustard hues, giving this plant a bold, luxurious presence. Each leaf is uniquely patterned, making it a true statement piece for serious collectors.

  • Full Botanical Name: Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Variegata’
  • Common Names: Aurea Variegated Monstera, Yellow Variegated Monstera
  • Country and/or Region of Origin: Cultivar; species native to Central America
  • Growing Conditions in Native Habitat: Tropical rainforests where plants climb trees in warm, humid conditions with bright, filtered light

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain strong variegation; avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch yellow sections.
  • Ideal Room: Bright living rooms, plant rooms, conservatories with filtered light
  • Feeding: Balanced aroid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (60–80%) preferred for optimal leaf size and health
  • Ideal Temperature: 20–28°C; avoid temperatures below 16°C and cold drafts
  • Watering: Allow the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and ensure excellent drainage
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic (genus level) — contains calcium oxalate crystals that may cause oral irritation if ingested
  • Soil Type: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix with bark, perlite, coco coir, and pumice
  • Propagation: Stem cuttings with a visible node; variegation stability varies between cuttings
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 2–3 m tall indoors with support; spread 1–1.5 m
  • Growth Rate: Moderate; slower than non-variegated Monstera due to reduced chlorophyll
  • Pests and Treatment: Thrips, spider mites, and mealybugs; inspect variegated tissue regularly and treat promptly
  • Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when rootbound; provide a moss pole or support for mature growth
  • Pruning: Remove damaged or weakly variegated leaves if necessary to redirect energy
  • Air Purification: Very good; helps improve indoor air quality
  • Folklore: Golden-variegated Monsteras are associated with abundance, success, and rarity, symbolising prosperity and cultivated luxury
