Meet the Jewel Orchid Mix—the "Velvet Collection" that brings the shimmering magic of the rainforest floor right to your shelf. Unlike most orchids, these are grown for their breathtaking foliage, featuring a curated selection of Macodes, Anoectochilus, Goodyera, and Dossinia species. Whether it’s electric ""lightning"" veins or deep, marbled velvet, this mix is a literal treasure chest of living gems!

Plase note you only get one plant.

  • The Formal Names: A premium selection from the Macodes, Anoectochilus, Goodyera, and Dossinia genera.
  • The Nicknames: Lightning Bolt Orchids / Marbled Jewels / Velvet Orchids
  • Roots: A true ""Who’s Who"" of the tropical world, with ancestors hailing from the humid forest floors of Southeast Asia, the Himalayas, and even parts of North America.
  • Natural Vibe: These are terrestrial orchids, meaning they love to creep along the mossy, shaded ground under a leafy jungle canopy.

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Sunlight: They are the ultimate shade-seekers. Low to medium indirect light is perfect—keep them far away from harsh direct sun, which can fade their ""glow.""
  • Best Room: A steamy bathroom, a bright kitchen, or a dedicated glass terrarium.
  • Snacks: A very weak (1/4 strength) orchid fertiliser once a month during spring and summer.
  • Tropical Feels: High humidity is their love language (60-80%). They adore cloches, pebble trays, or living in a group of other plants.
  • Cosy Factor: Most of these varieties love it warm (18–27°C), though the Goodyera can be a bit more tolerant of cooler spots.
  • Thirst: Keep their substrate consistently moist but never waterlogged. They are very sensitive to chemicals, so filtered or rainwater is their favourite drink!
  • Safety First: Non-toxic – perfectly safe for your furry friends and curious little ones.
  • The Bedding: A specialized, airy mix of sphagnum moss, perlite, and fine bark.
  • Family Tree: Propagate via rhizome division or stem cuttings when the plant looks established.
  • Space Needs: Petite and creeping, they generally stay between 10–25 cm in height.
  • Speed: A slow and steady grower—each new leaf is a work of art worth waiting for!
  • Uninvited Guests: Watch for mealybugs or fungus gnats; keep the air moving to prevent any issues.
  • Moving Day: They have delicate, shallow roots and love to stay snug; repot every 1–2 years to refresh their moss.
  • Haircut: Snip off the small, dainty flower spikes after blooming to keep the foliage looking its best.
  • Fresh Air: Great for adding a touch of air-purifying nature to small, humid spaces.
  • Plant Lore: Because they shimmer in the dark under a torch, Dossinia and Macodes have long been considered "guiding lights" in tropical folklore.
