  • Full Botanical Name: Hoya sp. ‘Sarawak Cream’
  • Common Names: Sarawak Cream Hoya, Cream Variegated Hoya
  • Country and/or Region of Origin: Borneo (Sarawak region)
  • Growing Conditions in Native Habitat: Grows epiphytically in warm, humid forests with dappled sunlight, high airflow, and drying periods between rainfall

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light is essential to maintain the creamy variegation. Tolerates gentle morning sun but avoid direct midday rays.
  • Ideal Room: Living rooms, bedrooms, plant rooms, bright bathrooms, or greenhouse cabinets
  • Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Hoyas also appreciate calcium and magnesium supplements.
  • Humidity: Prefers 60–80% humidity; grows well in kitchen/bathroom humidity but thrives with humidifiers or cabinet environments.
  • Ideal Temperature: 18–28°C; avoid temperatures below 15°C.
  • Watering: Allow the top 2–4 cm of soil to dry before watering again. Avoid waterlogged soil—overwatering can cause leaf yellowing and root issues.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Non-Toxic (genus level).
  • Soil Type: Chunky, airy epiphytic mix containing orchid bark, perlite, pumice, and coco coir
  • Propagation: Stem cuttings in moss, water, or soil; roots faster with bottom heat and high humidity
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Vines reaching 1–2 metres indoors; benefits from a trellis or hoop support
  • Growth Rate: Moderate; variegated forms tend to grow slower than green varieties
  • Pests and Treatment: Susceptible to mealybugs, spider mites, and thrips—treat with neem oil or plant-safe insecticides
  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years; prefers to be slightly root-bound but benefits from fresh, airy substrate
  • Pruning: Trim lightly to control vine length; never remove flowering peduncles
  • Air Purification: Good; waxy leaves help filter indoor air while adding tropical elegance
  • Folklore: Cream-variegated Hoyas are often said to symbolise clarity and light, representing calm energy and balance within the home
