Meet Hoya bella—the free-flowering sweetheart. Slim trailing stems carry neat leaves and clusters of waxy white flowers with pink-purple centres when she is happy. Pretty, graceful and wonderfully rewarding, she is one of the best Hoyas for flower lovers.

  • The Formal Name: Hoya bella
  • The Nickname: Beautiful Wax Plant
  • Roots: A Hoya species native to the eastern Himalaya and nearby regions.
  • Natural Vibe: Warm humid forest edges where trailing epiphytes grow in filtered light and airy organic pockets.

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Sunlight: She prefers bright indirect light and can enjoy a little soft morning or evening sun.
  • Best Room: A bright shelf, hanging pot or warm windowsill where the vines can trail freely.
  • Snacks: Feed lightly every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer; a bloom-supporting feed can help mature plants flower.
  • Tropical Feels: Average humidity is usually fine, though she appreciates a little extra moisture in the air.
  • Cosy Factor: Keep her warm at 18–26°C and away from cold draughts.
  • Thirst: Let the mix dry partly between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain well.
  • Safety First: Generally considered pet-safer, but keep away from pets and small hands to avoid chewing, sap mess or stomach upset.
  • The Bedding: Use a chunky, airy mix with bark, perlite and a little coco or peat-free base.
  • Family Tree: Propagate from stem cuttings with nodes, ideally in warm bright conditions.
  • Space Needs: Lovely in a hanging pot or on a shelf where the vines can spill or climb.
  • Speed: A steady grower that may flower once mature and settled; avoid moving her constantly.
  • Uninvited Guests: Watch for mealybugs, scale and aphids around new growth and flower peduncles.
  • Moving Day: Repot only when needed; many hoyas flower better when slightly snug in the pot.
  • Haircut: Trim only where needed and do not remove old flower peduncles, as many hoyas rebloom from them.
  • Fresh Air: A waxy-leaved trailing plant with a soft collector feel and beautiful flowering potential.
  • Plant Lore: Hoya bella is loved because she can flower freely, and old peduncles should be left in place as they can bloom again.
