Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf scorching.
  • Ideal Room: Suitable for living rooms, bathrooms, or any space with ample natural light and high humidity.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 3 weeks during the growing season.
  • Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 50% and 70%. To maintain this, consider placing the plant on a humidity tray or using a humidifier.
  • Ideal Temperature: Best kept between 60°F and 85°F (15°C to 29°C). Protect from drafts and sudden temperature changes
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Non-toxic to pets and children.
  • Soil Type: Prefers a well-draining, moist sphagnum soil.
  • Propagation: Propagate by separating offsets (pups) from the mother plant once they have developed their own roots.
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Can grow up to 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) tall with a spread of up to 12 inches (30 cm).
  • Growth Rate: Slow-growing; may take several years to reach full size.
  • Pests and Treatment: Watch for aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  • Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a pot 1–2 inches larger in diameter than the current one.
  • Pruning: Remove dead or yellowing leaves to maintain plant health and appearance.
  • Air Purification: Known to purify indoor air by removing toxins like formaldehyde.
  • Folklore: In some cultures, Earth Star Bromeliads are considered symbols of good luck and prosperity.
