Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Prefers bright light with several hours of direct sun. Produces the best colour and compact growth in bright windows.
  • Ideal Room: Sunny living rooms, offices, conservatories, or kitchens with south or west-facing windows
  • Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted balanced or succulent fertiliser.
  • Humidity: Low humidity preferred; thrives in dry indoor air.
  • Ideal Temperature: 18–26°C; can tolerate cooler temperatures down to 10°C if kept dry.
  • Watering: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly in winter. Overwatering can lead to root and stem rot.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic (genus level) — ingestion can cause vomiting or gastrointestinal upset in pets and mild symptoms in humans.
  • Soil Type: Fast-draining cactus/succulent mix with added grit, sand, or perlite
  • Propagation: Extremely easy—root from stem cuttings or single leaves left to callus before planting
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Indoors 60–120 cm tall; can grow into a small tree over many years
  • Growth Rate: Moderate; faster in bright light and warm conditions
  • Pests and Treatment: Can attract mealybugs and scale; treat with neem oil or plant-safe insecticide
  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when the plant becomes top-heavy; use a sturdy pot to support its woody stems
  • Pruning: Prune to shape and encourage branching; cuttings can be rooted for new plants
  • Air Purification: Moderate; helps improve indoor air quality while offering a calming, sculptural presence
  • Folklore: Widely regarded as a symbol of luck, prosperity, and financial success—often gifted for new homes or business openings
