Ceropegia linearis ‘Luuk’ is a rare and elegant trailing succulent known for its long, slender leaves and graceful cascading vines. Unlike the classic String of Hearts, ‘Luuk’ has narrow, linear foliage with a soft green sheen, giving it a refined, minimalist look. Fast-growing, easy-care, and beautifully sculptural, it’s a perfect plant for hanging baskets and modern interiors.

  • Full Botanical Name: Ceropegia linearis ‘Luuk’
  • Common Names: Luuk String Plant, Linear Ceropegia, Narrow-Leaf Ceropegia
  • Country and/or Region of Origin: Southern Africa (cultivar selection of Ceropegia linearis)
  • Growing Conditions in Native Habitat: Native species grow in rocky, arid habitats with bright light, fast drainage, and long dry periods; store water in tubers and vines

Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates some morning sun but avoid harsh midday rays.
  • Ideal Room: Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bright offices, or hanging near sunny windows
  • Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted succulent fertiliser.
  • Humidity: Thrives in normal household humidity; prefers drier air over high humidity.
  • Ideal Temperature: 18–27°C; avoid temperatures below 12°C.
  • Watering: Allow at least 70–90% of the soil to dry before watering. Water sparingly in winter. Overwatering is the most common issue.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Generally considered non-toxic (genus level), but ingestion may still cause mild stomach upset.
  • Soil Type: Fast-draining succulent or cactus mix with added pumice or perlite
  • Propagation: Very easy—propagate from node cuttings or tubers placed on moist soil or in water
  • Eventual Height and Spread: Vines can trail 1–2 metres; compact root system suited to smaller pots
  • Growth Rate: Fast in warm, bright conditions
  • Pests and Treatment: Occasionally attracts mealybugs or aphids; treat with neem oil or a plant-safe insecticide
  • Repotting: Every 1–2 years; prefers snug pots but benefits from fresh soil
  • Pruning: Trim vines to encourage fullness; use cuttings for propagation
  • Air Purification: Mild; valued mainly for its elegant trailing display
  • Folklore: Trailing Ceropegia plants are often associated with connection and continuity, symbolising bonds that grow stronger over time
