Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid strong direct sun which can scorch the thick leaves.
  • Ideal Room: Humid plant rooms, greenhouse cabinets, warm bathrooms, or conservatories
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced, diluted aroid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
  • Humidity: High humidity (70–90%) is essential to maintain leaf texture and prevent crisping.
  • Ideal Temperature: 20–28°C; avoid temperatures below 16°C and drafty areas.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy; allow the top 2–3 cm to partially dry before watering again. Sensitive to waterlogging.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic (genus level) — contains calcium oxalates that can cause irritation if ingested.
  • Soil Type: Chunky, well-aerated aroid mix with bark, perlite, pumice, and sphagnum
  • Propagation: Division of offsets or careful stem/chonk division; slow to propagate
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 30–60 cm tall; 30–50 cm wide
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate; faster in very high humidity and warmth
  • Pests and Treatment: Vulnerable to thrips, spider mites, and mealybugs; maintain high humidity and treat with neem or insecticidal soap as needed
  • Repotting: Every 1–2 years; prefers a snug pot but appreciates fresh, airy substrate
  • Pruning: Remove old or damaged leaves to support new growth
  • Air Purification: Good; contributes to improved indoor air quality
  • Folklore: Often associated with wealth, strength, and rarity due to its thick, almost leather-like leaves and bold, luxurious appearance
