Care Guide

  • Care Guide:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun to preserve velvet texture and rich colour saturation.
  • Ideal Room: Plant rooms, greenhouse cabinets, warm interiors with stable humidity
  • Feeding: Diluted balanced aroid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth
  • Humidity: High humidity (65–85%) recommended for optimal leaf size, finish, and depth of colour
  • Ideal Temperature: 20–27°C; protect from temperatures below 16°C and cold drafts
  • Watering: Keep substrate lightly moist; allow the top 2–3 cm to dry slightly between waterings. Never allow waterlogging.
  • Pet/Child Safe: Toxic (genus level) — contains calcium oxalate crystals that may cause irritation if ingested
  • Soil Type: Very chunky, well-aerated aroid mix with bark, perlite, pumice, and sphagnum moss
  • Propagation: Stem division or node cuttings; slow and best performed on established plants
  • Eventual Height and Spread: 45–75 cm tall; 40–60 cm wide depending on maturity and conditions
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate; develops heavier, more refined leaves with age
  • Pests and Treatment: Thrips and spider mites are the primary risks; maintain humidity and inspect foliage regularly
  • Repotting: Every 1–2 years once rootbound; avoid oversized pots
  • Pruning: Remove older or damaged leaves at the base to support strong new growth
  • Air Purification: Good; contributes positively to indoor air quality
  • Folklore: Line-bred Red Velvet Cake® Anthuriums symbolise indulgence, refinement, and consistency—representing the purest expression of velvet luxury within elite Anthurium collections
