Meet Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek Variegata'—the velvet Alocasia with white veining and creamy variegation. Deep green velvety leaves, sharp white veins and pale splashes make this one of the most recognisable variegated aroids. Stylish, unusual and full of character, she is a brilliant choice for adding something special to the plant shelf.

  • The Formal Name: Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek Variegata'
  • The Nickname: Variegated Frydek
  • Roots: A cultivated variegated form of the Frydek Alocasia.
  • Natural Vibe: Bright filtered light, humidity and a chunky aroid mix without cold soggy roots.

Care Guide
  • Care Guide:
  • Sunlight: Bright indirect light keeps the leaves strong; variegated forms need good light but no scorching sun.
  • Best Room: A warm bright room, cabinet or humid plant corner suits it well.
  • Snacks: Feed lightly but regularly in spring and summer.
  • Tropical Feels: Higher humidity helps leaves unfurl cleanly and reduces crisping.
  • Cosy Factor: Keep warm, ideally 18–27°C, and avoid cold draughts.
  • Thirst: Water when the top of the mix starts to dry, then drain well; do not leave cold and wet.
  • Safety First: Not pet-safe – keep away from cats, dogs and children who may chew the leaves or stems.
  • The Bedding: Use a chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite and coir.
  • Family Tree: Propagation is by division or corms once the plant is established.
  • Space Needs: Give room for leaves to open without rubbing.
  • Speed: Can be quick in summer but may pause after changes or in winter.
  • Uninvited Guests: Watch carefully for spider mites and thrips.
  • Moving Day: Repot only when active and settled.
  • Haircut: Remove yellowing older leaves at the base.
  • Fresh Air: A dramatic collector aroid for warm, bright indoor growing.
  • Plant Lore: Alocasias can drop an older leaf after a move while they redirect energy into fresh growth.
