Cryptanthus 'Elaine', commonly known as the Earth Star Bromeliad, is a striking terrestrial bromeliad native to the rainforests of Brazil. This plant is celebrated for its rosette of narrow, wavy leaves that display a vibrant mix of deep green, white, and pink hues, creating a star-like pattern. Mature plants typically reach a height of 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) and can spread up to 12 inches (30 cm) wide.

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf scorching.
  • Ideal Room: Suitable for living rooms, bathrooms, or any space with ample natural light and high humidity.
  • Feeding: Apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring when active growth starts. 
  • Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 50% and 70%. To maintain this, consider placing the plant on a humidity tray or using a humidifier. 
  • Ideal Temperature: Best kept between 60°F and 85°F (15°C to 29°C). Protect from drafts and sudden temperature changes.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
